COTABATO CITY

 

PC Hill or Tawantawan

A stone fort towering over the city with a height of 90 feet., now houses the Cotabato City Internal Defense Command. This is Cotabato City's famous landmark, this historic hill served as a watch tower for the natives in their defense drive to detect and repel assaults by enemies. From this hill, one can have a panoramic view of the city and the Rio Grande de Mindanao.

Kutawato Caves
The only cave in the country that is right in the heart of the city. Its various entrances, all within traffic a rarity that can only be had in the "Heart of Mindanao". These caves were also the source of the city's present name for "KUTA" means FORT and "WATO" means STONE hence the name "Fort of Stone" which later on became Cotabato. Its walls of white, beige and brownish shade glitters in the dark and echoes a colorful past dating back to the days when no foreign foot yet trampled upon its land. The caves had given sanctuary to the natives when the Spaniards tried to convert them into the Castillan Faith and has served the purpose when the Filipino guerillas fought the invading force of the Japanese Imperial Army during the Second World War.

When the Japanese firepower proved superior to that of the natives, the caves were then used as an armory and even as a garrison. Within it confines, tortured and oppressed souls that thirst for freedom and democracy echoed their faint moans and cries that were buried in its bossom, muted for over half a century. there are four entrances, the Provincial Capitol Cave, Bagua Cave, Caverna Espańol and the Kuweba ni Satur.

Rio Grande de Mindanao or Masla Pulangi
The longest river in the country, it is estimated to be 182 kilometers long and 96 meters wide. It is not only aesthetic value but also of economic importance. Water sport and boat racing are the popular attractions of the river, usually held to coincide with the Feast of Our Lady of Penafrancia, Shariff Kabunsuan Festival and the annual "GUINAKIT" or river festival.
It also offers a unique experience on river cruises.

Takumi Butai Memorial Shrine
The shrine was named after Takumi, the Provincial Commander of the Japanese Imperial Army for the Empire Province of Cotabato during the Second World War. Upon Takumi's request, part of his ashes are enshrined in Cotabato City - a place he considered his second home. August which is the Japanese All Soul's month usher Japanese nationals visit in homage to a local hero and relieve the memories of war

Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto and Tamontaka Church
Built in 1872 of Spanish architecture and design. Tamontaka church is the oldest church in the city , a relic of the living past. The church site, being the first area of the Jesuits in 1871 during the conversion days, is a living witness to the harmony that exists among Muslims and Christians, in this part of the country the statue of the Lady of Lourdes at the grotto is a replica of the original in France and is believed to be miraculous. The place also offers a children's park, mini zoo, forest area, a small Santa Claus museum, a lot of Elvis Presly memorabilla and a diorama called "Hope of the Seeds".

Timako Hill Seaside Resort and Cultural Village
Overlooking Illana Bay, it is protected by Bongo Island. The place is a good resort with bluegreen waters, sandy white beach, lake and cave, wooded park and a river - is ideal for camping, skin diving, snorkeling, boating, fishing and other water sports. it likewise offers nature lovers an ideal place for trekking, bird and white monkey and other leisure activities.
The cultural village which is at the foot of the hill is a typical Maguindanao Village where people practice the traditional crafts such as brassmaking, malong weaving, mat and basket weaving, boat building and bamboo crafts. It is also a sanctuary for oral and written traditions of the people including lores, legends, dances, songs, rituals and other metaphysical culture of the tribe.

KORONADAL CITY

El Gawel Resort and Wildlife
A one (1) kilometer resort from the national highway developed by the City Government of
Koronadal. The area is within the more than 1000 hectare proclaimed water reserved area maintained by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). A protected forest reservation serving as wildlife habitat. The resort is ideal for family excursion and swimming in the natural pool.

Millinium and Cabillion Falls
These two waterfalls are found in the mountain of barangay Cacub, seventeen kilometer travel from the heart of the City by a motorcycle called skylab.

Cadidang Cave and Supon Falls
This tourist distination is located at Barangay San Jose, Koronadal City, can be reach by motorcycle only.

The Siok Falls
The biggest waterfalls found within the City, located at Barangay Mabini, eleven kilometer from the City proper.

JC Garden
It is located along the national highway, barangay Carpenter Hill. A flower garden specialized in orchid production.

GENERAL SANTOS CITY

 

Carlos P. Garcia Park

After the long week of work, schools, find leisure at the city's prime park, the Carlos P. Garcia Park fronting the City Hall and among others situated at the key areas in the city. Breathe the fresh air as you are surrounded with ornamental plants and wide variety of flora.

Museum
The General Paulino Santos Museum Foundation, Inc. , through the initiative of the Notre Dame of Dadiangas College is the showroom of the City's promising and glorious past which features memorabilia of the late Gen. Paulino Santos and other significant artifacts, relics, and treasures that brought General Santos City for what it is today. It also highlights ethnic costumes such that of the T'bolis, and Muslims.

 

Beaches

 

The coastal strip from Siguel at the outskirts of the city going westward to Maitum and eastward to Glan has come to be known as SOCSKSARGEN's "beach row." Numerous resorts with black, gray and coral sand beaches dot the area.
 

London Beach Resort
This is probably the best-laid out Resort in the GSC with good accommodation. There is a bamboo safety boom enclosing the swimming area.

 

T'Boli Beach Resort
A good location with a small reef but watch for the current. Cheap accommodation is available here.

 

Rajah Beach Resort
Another good location with a sand and small coral outcrop.

 

Maharlika Beach Resort
This is by far the best site in the local GenSan area. The site is the biggest resort in the area and has a natural fresh water swimming pool on shore.
There are large staghorn corals in the area that are home to a huge verity of fish including: sweetlips, roupers, snappers, parrotfish, wrasse, emperors, moorish idols and many more. A resident shoal of yellowtail barracuda patrols the area and shoals of mackerel and jacks are regular visitors. Cow fish, turretfish and filefish are seen and large congregations of shripfish are not uncommon.

 

Tropicana Beach Resort
Another quality resort with with sandy bottom and small coral outcrop. With  accommodation and is about 50m from Maharlika Resort.

GSC Fishport Complex  - showcases the backbone of the city's fishing-based economy. About 200 tons of 20- to 50-kg yellow fin tuna are landed daily. This sashimi-grade tuna is quickly exported to Japan. They also supply a Filipino favorite, frozen or fresh tuna jaw which is served barbecued (inihaw na panga).

Kidapawan City’s strategic location at the foothills of Mr. Apo provides the city with vast tourism potentions waiting to be tapped. Alluring panoramic scenes such as Mt. Apo’s twin peaks breathtaking waterfalls, lakes and lagoons, endemic flora and fauna, as well as favorable peace and order conditions all contribute to the City’s tourism potentials.

 

Mt Apo

The Philippine’s tallest peak and home to the almost extinct Philippine Eagle; a majestic mountain surrounded by moss-covered century-old trees, captivating flora and fauna, sulfur craters and massive boulders. It is one of the most visited summer respite of local and foreign tourists.

 

Lake Venado

A lake hidden among the mountain ranges at an elevation of 7,200 feet above sea level – making it the highest lake in the Philippines. Its crystal waters mirror the twin peaks at Mt. Apo.

 

Lake Agko

A steaming blue lake where hot and cold springs converge at an elevation of 4,200 feet above sea level. It is five kilometers away form the jump-off point at Barangay Ilomavis.

 

Marbel Falls

A hidden twin falls about 60-70 feet high surrounded by hot springs.

 

Mawig Falls

Falls located in Barangay Balabag and is the source of the crystal clear Matingao River.

 

Kansal Falls

Fed by thousands of mountain springs of Mt. Apo, this waterfall is the source of Kidapawan City’s best tasting potable water.

 

Mandarangan Geological Site

An educational tourism site within the Mt. Apo Natural Park known to the locals as “gamay nga bulkan” (little volcano).

 

Fruit Farms and Orchards

Kidapawan is home to vast plantations of exotic tropical fruits like durian, mangosteen, mango, lanzones, marang, rambutan and bananas, the reason why it is known as the City of Fruits. These plantations are now among the major tourist attractions in the City.

 

Geothermal Power Plant

Established more than a decade ago, the Mt. Apo Geothermal Power Plant of the Philippines National Oil Company-Energy Development Corporation is the single biggest investment in the City of Kidapawan. It generates a total of 104 Megawatts of electricity that powers industrial plants in Mindanao. Situated in the southwest portion of the Mt. Apo National Park, the Geothermal Plant is itself a landmark and a tourist attraction.

TACURONG CITY

 

Tacurong City was originally called “Pamansang”, after a creek that flows from south to the north of the area. Later, “Pamansang” was changed to “Talakudong”, a Maguindanao term meaning head covering which was worn by early settlers. Eventually, the name was changed/shortened to Tacurong

 

 

NORTH COTABATO

 

Mt. Apo

Mt Apo is the highest peak in the island of Mindanao and the whole Philippines rising to 3,143 meters above sea level.  The mountain encompasses the provinces of North Cotabato, Davao del Sur, and Davao City. The vegetative cover is characteristic of tropical rainforest.  The Philippine eagle is  the most important bird species in Mt Apo. 


Sinapangan Waterfalls
10-15 meters in height and still a part of Mt. Akir-akir watershed area.

Dulao Waterfalls
It is approximately 100 meters drop of water and has a natural pool at the end of the drop water. The falls is sorrounded by mountain ridges with secondary natural grown trees and has a low or cool temperature at all times.
Located at the Upper Dado, Alamada, Cotabato.
Accessible by Skylab from from Alamada with approximate distance of 22 kms.

Marble Falls and Hot Spring
More or less 60-70 feet drop of water surrounded by mountain ridges that inhabited by wild animals. It is also the holding camp going to the peak of Mt. Apo via Lake Venado

Lake Agko
Situated at about 1,280 meters above sea level (ASL) and has a cold temperature during day and night and surrounded by mountain ridges. It has a beautiful boiling lake and inhabited by indigenous people in the surrounding.
Located at Sitio Agco, Illomavis, Kidapawan City.
Accessible by Jeep and motorcycle/skylab.

Paniqui Cave and Waterfalls
It has a crystal clear waterfalls and cold springs with natural pool surrounded by mountain ridges and blessed with natural cave.

Sang'ngawan Hotspring Resort
A hot spring blessed with two natural pools of boiling and warm temperature water
Located at Batasan/Biangan, Makilala, Cotabato.

Towosavan Falls
More or less 20-30 meters drop of water with natural pool. Its temperature reached up to 6 degrees Celsius at night.
Located at Waterfalls Bongolanon, Magpet, Cotabato.

Kirondong Falls and Rainforest
More or less 70-80 meters drop of water surrounded by mountain ridges and cliffs.
Located at Kirondong, Kinarum, Magpet, Cotabato.
 
Mab'bu Falls and Rainforest
More or less 400 feet waterfalls blessed with bed of flowers and century Cinnamon and Almaciga trees in the surrounding.
Located at Dallag, Manobo, Magpet, Cotabato.

Nanilungan Falls
A 50 meters in height and 90 degrees drop. Spotted forest and beautiful formations of rocks could also be found in the vicinity.

A 100 meters in height of cascading waterfalls with a cave beside it.

Bokwan Falls
Majestic shower ranges of water with approximate length of 50 feet that cascades 5 times.
Located at Upper Lombo, Kabantian, Arakan, Cotabato.
 
Epol River
Three (3) kilometer of river length, cascaded with 6 series of waterfalls and river pools.
Located at Gambudes, Arakan, Cotabato.

Lake Luningning
An estimated area of 4 hectares with 30 meters depth of clear water, it has an underground spring that provides and sustain the lake even during dry season

Liliongan Cave
A natural cave with beautiful stalactite and stalagmites formations inside underground creek and thick layer of guano could also be found inside the cave.

Kitub-Bao Cave
A cave that has one entrance and three exit points, underground water, swallow birds, bats and other unknown insects could be found inside the cave.

Manobo Tribal Village

SOUTH COTABATO 

Lake Sebu, Lake Lahit and Lake Siluton
Standing 3,000 feet above sea level. these three adjacent lakes can instantly capture the heart of nature lovers. Lake Sebu is the Largest among the three lakes. Lake Siluton, the deepest and Lahit the smallest. Lake Sebu with the striking setting of its gandeur is home for B'laans and T'bolis whom their way of life is reflected almost anywhere with their exotic ethnic rafts. The area is also a wildlife sanctuary.

Mt. Matutum
It is a cone shape volcano and looms over the province at 2,286 meters high. It is perhaps the provinces' most imposing land mark with crowned pineapple at its foot like Mayans waiting for their gods. Natural hot and cold springs are found at its foot.

Mt. Matutum

Lake Holon (formerly Maughan) and Mt. Melibingoy
(formerly Parker)
Lake Holon and Mt. Melibinogy are declared as a reservation area for park and ecological camp. Lake Holon compasses an area of 259 hectares of pristine waters. The Philippine eagle, rare species of butterflies and some endangered species of wildlife were reported to have been sighted in these ares.

The Seven Falls
Awesome adventure to the seven magnificent falls amidst the luscious forest of Lake Sebu is an experience of a life time for the mountaineers. Lonon Falls, the largest of them pours thousand of cubic meters of water to a natural pool where one could either swim or just simply admire the beauty sorrounds you.

Kalsangi Golf Course and Country Club

Maitum Cave/Ayub Cave

A cave located seven kilometers from the town hall here has yielded potsherds from various periods, including those that are likely 3000 years old, archaeologists from the National Museum who visited the site here.

 

Beach Resorts

Tuca Point White Sand Beach. This unspoiled beach area has a series of secluded coves with short stretches of white/off-white coral sand beaches. Reachable by a short ride/walk from Kiamba's municipal hall to the pier, where pumpboats are available for the last few minutes of the trip.

Gumasa White Sand Beach. At the southernmost point of the province, Gumasa in Glan is blessed with more than a one kilometer stretch of powdery white sand beach and coves.
