NRO XII Provides Technical Assistance to NCMB XII Initiated Activity   February 28, 2009

On 28 February 2009, a NEDA XII staff also acted as Resource Speaker during the General Assembly Meeting and Learning Session of the Region XII Labor and Management Cooperation Practitioners Association (LAMACOPA) conducted at the Family Country Hotel, General Santos City.

The activity was facilitated by the National Conciliation and Mediation Board (NCMB) Regional Branch XII and the topic assigned to NEDA XII was “Impact of the Global Financial Crisis to Industries in SOCCSKSARGEN.” The presentation focused on the ERP, with updates on the report of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region XII; i.e. as of 20 February 2009, a total of 19 companies have been affected by the crisis with 349 workers displaced and 675 included in Flexible Working Arrangement (FWA). The 19 companies resorted to various schemes inorder to save on operational costs like downsizing, slowdown, reduction of manpower and even temporary closure.

Issues and Concerns

1. Among the major issues that cropped up during these fora is the need to ensure that:

a) the implementation of ERP programs/activities shall be monitored by appropriate agencies; and,

b) the various programs (CLEEP, GREEN COLLAR JOBS, GREET, OYSTER, YES, NARS, etc.) shall be accessible to the target beneficiaries, specifically the displaced workers.
