Senator Gordon, ADG Bacani Grace Region XII Special RDC Meeting      January 13, 2009

Regional Development Council XII was honoured by the presence of the Hon. Senator Richard J. Gordon and ADG Marcelina E. Bacani of NEDA during theRDC XII Special Meeting cum Resource Mobilization Forum on 13 January 2009 at Barbara’s Restaurant, Intramuros, Manila.

The forum showcased Region XII’s development perspectives and growth potentials, priority programs and projects, and the best of its tourist destinations and products.

In his keynote speech, Sen. Gordon described Mindanao as “the land of the possible” where development vision could be achieved. He urged everyone to believe in the Filipino heritage and pursue tourism as a development strategy toward attaining the vision. He also added the need to understand the underlying causes of conflict, which is poverty. Addressing poverty would transform Mindanao into a bastion of peace.

ADG Bacani, on the other hand, stressed the importance of image building. She said that the Philippines is one of the best tourist destinations in the world. What is needed is to inform the world about it and to provide facilities to encourage travellers to prefer Philippines as a tourist destination. The RDC, she said, should always keep its stakeholders updated and informed on the Council’s development efforts, particularly the projects implemented in the region.

The Honorable Governor of Sarangani Province, Miguel Rene A. Dominguez, acted as Forum Convenor.
Among the participants were local chief executives and directors of regional line agencies in Region XII. Other guests included MEDCO Chairperson Usec. Virgilio L. Leyretana, Sr., party list Congressperson Clarissa Coscoluela; and, representatives of the Japanese Embassy, the World Bank and the Office of Senator Villar.

The NEDA Regional Office XII provides support to the PTF-MRBRD as its Interim Secretariat.
